HYPERPIGMENTATION & THE PREGNANCY JOURNEY
Approximately 50–75% of pregnant women experience hyperpigmentation during pregnancy. Hyperpigmentation during pregnancy is primarily caused by hormonal changes that increase melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH), estrogen, and progesterone levels, leading to more melanin production. It typically fades postpartum, but in some cases, it may persist.

A silky, multi-tasking daily moisturiser with niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and broad-spectrum mineral SPF 30. It hydrates, brightens, and evens skin tone while protecting against UVA, UVB, and blue light—helping prevent hyperpigmentation without the greasy finish.
Available in two sheer tints: Light, to even tone and mask white cast on lighter skin; and Deep, to blend seamlessly into deeper tones and neutralise greyish hues common with mineral SPFs.
A true skincare essential!

What Causes Hyperpigmentation During Pregnancy?
Hyperpigmentation during pregnancy is primarily caused by hormonal changes that stimulate increased melanin production (the pigment responsible for skin colour)
Estrogen and Progesterone: Higher levels of these hormones stimulate melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) to produce more melanin.
Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone (MSH): This hormone naturally increases during pregnancy, contributing to darker patches on the skin.
UV rays can worsen hyperpigmentation by further activating melanocytes. This is why conditions like melasma (the "mask of pregnancy") become more pronounced with sun exposure.
Pregnancy increases blood flow to the skin, which may enhance the appearance of darkened areas.
Up To 90%
of pregnant women experience some form of skin change.

Why Do Ingredients Matter During Pregnancy?
During pregnancy, hormonal changes make the skin more sensitive, which may increase absorption rates and exacerbate reactions. Certain ingredients are linked to birth defects, hormonal disruption, and developmental issues, so it’s crucial to switch to pregnancy-safe skincare products.
